Joia
Crear-Perry
Dr.
Joia A. Crear
serves as the
Medical Director
of Women’s
Health and Justice
Initiative New
Orleans, New
Orleans Healthy
Families Center,
and Healthy Start
New Orleans.
Dr. Crear received
her bachelors
training at Princeton
University and
Xavier University.
She completed
her medical degree
from Louisiana
State University
in 1997 and residency
in Obstetrics
and Gynecology
from Tulane University’s
School of Medicine
in 2001. She
attained certification
through the American
Board of Obstetrics
and Gynecology
in 2004.
In addition
to being a Fellow
of the American
College of Obstetrics
and Gynecology,
Dr. Crear received
several other
honors during
her educational
training and
professional
career. Among
these, she became
a NIH Student
Fellow. As
a resident, Dr.
Crear accepted
the Isadore Dyer,
M.D. Award for
Teaching Excellence. She
was awarded the
Tulane Xavier
Center for Excellence
in Women's Health
Award and the
Congressional
Black Caucus
Health Braintrust Award
in 2006. She
also chaired
the Workforce
Healthcare Recruitment
Subcommittee
of the Healthcare
Redesign Collaborative
under Sec. Leavitt.
Dr. Joia Crear
is the mother of
two, Jade, age
14 and Carlos,
age 11 and is
married to Dr.
Andre Perry. She
currently holds
membership in the
National Medical
Association, the
New Orleans Medical
Association, and
Black Women in
Medicine. While
maintaining a private
practice, she is
currently on the
Executive Board
for the New Orleans
African American
Museum and the
Coalition of Leaders
for Louisiana Healthcare.
